I've been many things over my career-- a land surveyor, a law enforcement officer, and programmer. I've even taught a few college classes. For the last ten years, I've worked at Florida State University, dedicating myself to creating software that lets law enforcement officers perform their jobs more efficiently and helps bring them home safely at the end of the day.

I worked for my father from my earliest memories. He taught me the value of hard work, honesty, and integrity. I earned my way up through the business, both in the field and the office, and taught several people the trade, myself. Some even went on to get their professional license.
Being in law enforcement was an experience I'll never forget. I worked as a patrol deputy in Marion County and even earned a Medal of Commendation my first year on the road, but my life took me to Tallahassee. Still, I met people and had experiences that shaped the rest of life.
Trak Engineering gave me my first taste of what it was like to be a prefessional software developer. There, I began writing serial communications between our own custom hardware using 9600 baud modems over 9-pin cables and eventually migrated to networked TCP/IP through WinCE devices. ACK? NAK?
FSU offered me a choice-- return to law enforcement full time or instead take over a state-wide programming initiative to help make the lives of officers better all over Florida. I've been with FSU for over ten years, now, and our applications serve over 18,000 users every day. With the grant funding we receive from FDOT, the agencies don't have to pay anything for it, either, freeing up resources for them to buy things like bullet proof vests, upgraded light bars, and better radios.
In addition to work, I volunteer as much of my time as I'm able and I have several hobbies that keep me entertained year-round.
I'm a self taught guitarist, and if I'm playing, it's usually on my Epiphone Casino VS. Blues, classic rock, jazz, and even some 90s alternative are all fair game. Just don't ask me to sing.
Taking digital photos is one of my favorite ways to relax, besides reading. Though I rarely do any sort of portrait photography, I love taking candid and nature shots. Plus, who doesn't need another excuse to go exploring?
There's nothing that really compares to the feeling of the wind and the ability to control that much horsepower with just a little twist of the wrist. It takes discipline, skill, and concentration, which is a challenge I welcome.
Who really knows what's next? I have aspirations of building upon the products we already offer, improving them with new technologies, and making them more friendly. I also want to finish my private pilot's license, complete my Master's degree in Management Information Systems, ride the Tail of the Dragon in Tennessee, and visit Venice, Italy. Maybe I can get all of those things done, or perhaps life will carry me in a different direction entirely.
